5 Reasons Why You Should Submit To Main Squeeze
SOU Student Press

Hello folks! Are you a writer? Are you looking for a place to publish your poems, short fiction, nonfiction, or art? Do you have writing friends who need to publish their work?

Well, SOU Student Press proudly present their first literary journal "Main Squeeze"!

"Main Squeeze" is the first literary journal published by Southern Oregon University Student Press and is the first publication by students for writers. They are "Original and unpublished submissions of nonfiction and fiction 1,500 words or less and poetry 200 lines or less."

If you're not sure about submitting your work, here are five reasons why you should!

1. Main Squeeze is looking for work that is unafraid "of being too humorous or too heartbreaking. Too beautiful or too ugly."

Don't be afraid to share your writing to a literary journal like Main Squeeze. Whether your stories and poems will be published or not, SOU Student Press encourages every writer to submit the work you are proud of.

2. They accept art submissions!

Along with writing submissions, SOU Student Press is accepting art submissions for their lit journal's cover. If you are an artist or know any artist, submit to Main Squeeze with the art before the deadline!

3. Two Things: Open Mic Night and Beyoncé's Lemonade.

SOU Student Press will be holding Freshly Squeezed: Open Mic, a fundraising event to raise money for future lit journals. Here you will have the chance to read your work. They will hold this event on May 10 and 24 at 6:30 p.m. Main Squeeze will also screen Beyoncé's visual album, "Lemonade."

4. Your writing matters.

SOU Student Press encourages writers to submit and share their work to readers. Who knows? If your writing gets accepted, there may be someone reading your story or poetry from Main Squeeze publications. It will be a wonderful feeling. Whether your work gets published on the first issue of Main Squeeze or in later publications, always remember: Your writing matters

5. As Shia LaBeouf puts it:

Do the thing!

The deadline to submit your work is May 15.

Submit your work (or tell your writing friends!) to their email at SOUStudentPress@gmail.com.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
