I was born and raised in North Carolina, and 21 years into my life I still can't find it in myself to want to leave. Sure, I want to travel once I'm done with college, and see places all around the world, but there are some things in NC that I don't think I could ever replace:
1. The History
There are absolutely more historic places to visit in the world, and even in our country, but NC offers some truly beautiful historic sites to visit. From historic towns tucked away in every corner of the state, to beautiful landmark buildings and houses, all the way through to sites like Cherokee there is somewhere for everyone to visit, and explore.
2. The Mountains
I have made my home in the NC Blue Ridge Mountains for over 3 years, so maybe, just maybe I am a bit biased. But, I truly believe that anyone who takes the time to visit this breathtaking area of the state will fall in love in an instant. The views that the mountainous area of NC has to offer are humbling in their beauty, and once you come to visit, you'll never want to leave.
3. BBQ
Yeah that's right I'll say it, NC barbecue is the best! I also take full responsibility in bias by also saying that my hometown of Lexington, NC is King of the 'Cue (shout out to Honeymonk)! Vinegar style takes the cake every time, and I will never get tired of it! The feud over which state takes the prize for best BBQ is as old as time, but I think we all know the truth!
4. Sweet Tea
I am a sweet tea fiend and I have yet to find a place that can satisfy my cravings like my home state! Whatever kind of magic elixir old NC grandmas put into this liquid gold is a mystery to me, but I cannot get enough of it! If you are on the hunt for some real sweet tea, you have to come down to North Carolina!
5. The People
Whether it's the sweet old mountain man, or the city sweethearts, we have some wonderful people in North Carolina. We may not be perfect, and some may believe that our state has a long way to go, but there is no other place I would rather be in to watch it blossom! I am so taken back when I visit areas where people don't hold doors, or say 'thank you', or always greet you with a smile because that's what I know and love! The people of NC are hard to beat, and I'm happy to be one of them!
