5 Reasons Cal Poly Is The Best University In The Country

1. You get the most bang for your buck.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is one of the most affordable colleges in the nation. Not only are you receiving an exemplary education but you are paying a minimal price for it. Undergraduates attend Cal Poly for just $8,919 a year which, compared to private schools and even other public schools, is ridiculously cheap. The truth is that Cal Poly’s low rates don't disqualify it from being seen as prestigious or being ranked one of the best public universities in the nation. You would think less money would mean a lesser education, but it absolutely does not take away from its stellar programs and impressive staff. Students that graduate from Cal Poly go on to accomplish amazing feats and make for astounding alum.

2. You really do learn by doing.

Cal Poly’s hands on approach to learning makes you want attend your classes. The small classes sizes hold me accountable to show up and allows for a relationship with my professors. After establishing attendance and a connection, it is much easier to succeed. Therefore Cal Poly sets us up for success. The learn-by-doing mentality allows me to apply my knowledge and then come out the other side with an even better understanding. Here at Cow Poly, we are not afraid to get our hands dirty because that’s real learning.

3. You can be a mountain person or beach person, we have both.

Cal Poly is 10 minutes from some of the most renowned beaches, but yet surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains. Whether you are a surfer or a mountain climber, San Luis Obispo has it all. San Luis Obispo’s beautiful scenery and numerous activities would mean nothing if the weather didn't permit for it. Luckily, San Luis Obispo’s weather never ceases to amaze me; with its never-ending sunshine, how couldn't it be the happiest place on earth? Aside from its perfect weather, San Luis Obispo is home to some of the most breathtaking views I have ever had the pleasure to lay eyes on.

4. We are right in the middle of the best state in the country.

Cal Poly being located in the central coast allows for an even distribution of northern and southern California kids. This makes San Luis Obispo the pit stop between visiting friends and also the perfect meeting place for when the drive is just a little too long. The central coast is also known for its stellar wineries which will be much appreciated when I reach twenty-one. Cal Poly’s location makes it one of the most desirable universities in the country due to its close proximity to the coast and by being the middle ground between north and south.

5. Since we are the happiest city, we have the happiest people.

San Luis Obispo has some of the kindest people I know. Since San Luis Obispo is such a small town there is no hustle and bustle of a big city and it reflects in the people here. The low-maintenance and low stress lifestyle shows in the generosity of the residents that live here. Who wouldn't want to live in the happiest city in America surrounded by the nicest people as well?

These reasons all validate that Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is the best university in the United States. Anyone that wants to say differently needs to take a trip to the happiest city in America and then they’ll think otherwise.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
