My final candidate spotlight will feature the Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. Since I decided to profile the top two candidates of the two major political parties in America, Bernie has advanced into the number-one spot according to several polls. This is yet another reason why a lead is never safe in politics. Senator Sanders has used issues pertaining to the millennial generation and the middle class to take top dog in recent polls.
This is his first issue on his website so it will be mine as well. Several ways Senator Sanders wishes to erase this gap are: raising the minimum wage to $15 by 2020, installing an estate tax on the top 0.3 percent of Americans, requiring employers to provided 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave, two weeks of paid vacation and a week of paid sick time, and finally making college tuition free. Roughly 4.5 percent of American citizens work for minimum wage, and with the Senator's support to raise it and give around 4 million Americans more compensation helps him gain support. Also, the idea of bringing more wealth back to the middle class and away from the top 1 percent is influencing to many Americans. These are critical to his platform, and these issues and proposed solutions connect Sanders directly to the millennials, who have recently become the largest voting demographic in America.
The son of immigrants, Bernie focuses on bringing our millions of undocumented workers into the limelight as citizens of the United States. We are a beacon of freedom and opportunity and he wants to help all those that are trying to escape hardships elsewhere have a home. He would fight for large immigration reform which features amnesty for those that are already here. With the Pope's recent visit to America, much attention has been focused on the minorities in America. Bernie Sanders has established himself as an advocate for minorities. He will work for the poor, every racial group, and any minority that is present in America. Individually they may be a minority, but together they form a strong foundation and voting base to launch a Presidential campaign. Bernie Sanders brings an alternative thought process to the Democratic party. Over the past eight years, Hillary Clinton has been rumored to be the future candidate, and with Bernie building a strong campaign, many Democrats are starting to endorse and really feel the Bern.
Bernie Sanders is a new kind of candidate in an election that is featuring a new wave of American politics, an advocate for the minorities and a man against the rich. The Democratic field for the nomination is not as crowded as the Republicans', yet there is still a battle going on between two different candidates, and Senator Sanders is doing everything to get every vote possible.
