5 Reasons Why Attending SUNY Fredonia Changes Your Life

Before I began college, I really didn't know what to expect. I knew it would be more work and it would be nothing like high school, but I didn't realize exactly how much it would change my life for the better. Out of all of the choices I made in my life, choosing to come to Fredonia was one of the best. It has changed my life for countless reasons, but here are five big reasons why it has had a huge impact.

1. The campus is beautiful and makes me feel at home.

Fredonia's campus is absolutely stunning. It isn't too big to walk to class, the architecture is one of a kind, and the patches of trees and flowers are beautiful. From the day I moved in, it has felt like home and every day I love being on campus.

2. The professors at Fredonia are highly knowledgeable and extremely talented.

Yes, the faculty members at any school are going to be great people to work with, but the professors at Fredonia are incredibly dedicated. They do the most they can for their students and they make themselves available for help because they truly do want to see us succeed.

3. There's a place for everyone here.

The amount of groups and open-minded students on campus allows for every Fredonia student to feel like they belong. Athletes, artists, and actors alike all have their own place on campus and it is extremely comforting.

4. The students are happy and welcoming.

I had never attended a school where the students are happy to be there until I came to Fredonia. It is so unlike high school in every way; every student jumps at the opportunity to make new friends and welcome new students. The feeling of being among these students is indescribable and I wouldn't trade it in for the world.

5. There are incredible opportunities left and right.

Whether it's study abroad or working with faculty, Fredonia offers so many great opportunities to its students. We're all given multiple chances to do great things in our four years here, and I appreciate those chances more than anything.

I often think about what my life would have been like if I would've gone to a different school and I'm almost completely certain I would have been miserable elsewhere. Fredonia is the best place for me and I'm so grateful for the friends I've made, professors I've learned from, and opportunities I've had. I wouldn't want college any other way.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
