5 Reasons I am in Love With College Life
Diego Calderon

There are so many things that college life brings to the table but what are some things that make good for you? Everyone is unique and quite frankly college life shows that. So here are five reasons as to why I am in love with college life.

1. I finally get to be the independent person I always wanted to be.

Ever since I was a little kid, I was always independent. You can even ask my parents. Here in college, I am truly independent. I get to decide when I want to go home, not my parents. I get to decide what I want to eat, not my mom. I get to decide who I want to hang out with, not my parents, who need to know the parents before I go hang out with the child. Independence is wonderful and the sooner you learn that, the better off you will be. I promise.

2. Friends I make are friends because I chose them to be.

Sure, I have a couple friends who live on the same floor as me. Because I chose to be more social than I usually am, I found them and they found me. So naturally, we became friends. Since graduating high school, I have realized that there were some friendships that only existed because our parents were friends, not because we actually wanted to be. The friends I make here I hope are the friends I will see at my wedding and at my baby shower.

3. Life actually begins.

I am no longer living in my parents house, so I get to do my own thing. Let me tell you, doing my own thing feels so good! I don't really have to tell my parents "I'm going out, be back at midnight!" I just make the plans and go, and in doing this, life began for me.

4. Free time is amazing.

Free time is not a given right, but if you have it you use it one way or the other. Whether that is going to be watching Netflix or chilling with friends, you use it. The only downside to free time is prioritizing. You have that test coming up on Friday? Well you could either use the free time to study or blow it off. It can be hard, but I bet you'll choose the answer the correct answer for whoever you are.

5. Cliche but true, I discover who I really am.

Now, I may be repeating myself, but all of the above more or less leads up to this. I am independent so I have no one to depend on except myself. I have to choose my friends, so I discover who it is I want to be surrounded by. Because life began, I have to find my own flow of things. Also, free time is a great opportunity to really do this because you can either be the person who gets all A's or the person who blows off all work and is extremely social... or somewhere in between. College is a great time to see who really are or who want to be so take risks and take a ride on the wild side.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
