5 Reasons I Am Glad I Am From Arkansas

Growing up in Arkansas, I never really appreciated or realized how good I had it. Since I have moved away for school, I have really come to love my home state. Here are a few reasons why I am thankful I am from Arkansas.

1. People are so friendly there.

After leaving for college and doing a little more traveling than I previously had, I had a rude awaking and had to come to the realization that not everyone is nice. In Arkansas everyone is generally pretty nice, the people at the supermarkets, random people you run into but this is not the case everywhere. I have noticed that in other states and other towns that people are not as friendly. They say what needs to be said to get the job done but do not bother to strike up a conversation with you or even ask how you are. Which I understand, they are just doing their job, I am just use to friendlier people I suppose.

2. People have manners.

Now of course this does not apply to everyone in Arkansas but the big majority of people say “Yes ma’am” “No sir” “Please” and “Thank you.” People in Arkansas often hold the doors for others rather than letting it slam in someone’s face. I am not saying that nowhere else is like this, it just seems to be more of a thing to do in Arkansas.

3. It is beautiful there.

Arkansas has so much natural beauty. It is a great place for doing things outdoors like going for a hike or riding a bike. I never realized how beautiful Arkansas was until I started traveling to other states and the scenic drives were not as scenic. I hate driving but when it is driving through Arkansas I enjoy it because everywhere you look there is nature surrounding you and it is stunning.

4. There are so many amazing local places to eat.

If you know me, then you know I love food. In Arkansas, the Northwest region of Arkansas, any type of food you could want is there. There are always new restaurants opening up with so many great options. Having so many choices can be a down side since you have to decide which place to go but who does not like having options? There are all types from Mexican, to Italian, to Thai, Indian food, etc. Anything you can think of, you could probably find it. This is neat because it helps add culture to Arkansas and those who live there. Many people may not be able to travel to places to try other styles of food so it is brought to us right in our home state.

5. It is home to the Razorbacks.

Need I say more? Even if the season or a game is not going our way I am always proud to be an Arkansas Razorback fan!

Arkansas is very near and dear to my heart and I am so proud to be from this great state! If you ever get the opportunity to visit, definitely do it. It has so much more to offer than people realize so take advantage and go experience the beauty of Arkansas!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
