5 Reasons 90's Kids Will Be The Best Parents

I think most of us born between 1990-1995 can attest to the fact that growing up as a 90's kid was inherently awesome. Not only was Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel far superior than it is today, the music, and gadgets we grew up with reflected a simpler time. Looking back on those times as an "adult" now and a new mom to the cutest little girl on the planet(I'm just a little biased), my 90's childhood set me, and my fellow 90's babies, on the path to be some pretty awesome parents. Here are five reasons why the children that hailed from the era of dial up internet and the Backstreet Boys will be the world's best parents.

1. Learning the importance of cooking for oneself and proper nutrition at a young age.

Knowing that we have survived the "food" that we baked and then ingested from the Easy Bake Oven is perfect background knowledge on what NOT to feed your kids.

2. Getting the best life advice from your favorite cartoons to pass down to your own young one.

Not only did the 90's provide us with the best cartoons known to man, they also gave us advice that will last a lifetime even if we didn't realize it at the time. Nothing like remembering this quote from Rafiki when you walk out of that test you know you bombed. When your young lion cub gets to that point in their life, they might want to hear Rafiki's advice too.

3. We know how to live without technology.

Believe it or not, wifi and iPhones weren't always around to save us from awkward situations. In the age of dial up internet you had to make a choice; either the internet or the good ol' landline. Most of the time this was a battle between you trying to talk to your crush on MSN Messenger and your mom trying to make this week's brunch plans with her friends. When the going got tough, we had to think of creative ways to entertain ourselves. This will come in handy for your future family when the wifi goes out for the third time in a week.

4. We can appreciate all of the seemingly small moments in life.

Whether it was finding one of these bad boys in your cereal box and watching it change colors as you dunked it in the milk or your mom letting you get new gel pens at K-mart, you will be able to teach your young ones to always appreciate every moment, big or small, that comes their way.

5. We had the best role models.

From Mulan, to Hercules, to Pocahontas, and Woody and Buzz we saw characters who "laughed in the face of danger", were heroic and kind, and weren't afraid to be who they were. We learned so much from these characters and saw perfect examples on what to instill in our own children and we didn't even know it yet. Remember, "The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all."

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
