Being 20 years old can be a wonderful thing, but then again, it can be a complete drag. We are at that age in life when we are expected to be an adult, but yet we are still treated like teens.
Here are five reasons why being 20 is too difficult to handle.
1. You're not a teen anymore, but still not old enough to make big life decisions.
You're here. You're finally out of your teenage years. But wait, you're only 20 years old. People aren't quite sure if you have your head on straight because you were just a teenager one year ago. How could you have matured that much in a year? We need to ask your parents, instead of letting you decide what's best.
2. You have a job and make your own money, but wait ... your parents still pay for your rent. Therefore, you still you have to answer to them.
You work your butt off, going to class all day then working all night, and you feel quite accomplished when you get that fat paycheck at the end of the week. You can spend it on good food, clothes, movies, etc. You feel so free and independent, but when it comes down to it, you need to call your parents monthly for the rent check. Therefore, you still need to listen to what they tell you to do (you're not as independent as you thought).
3. You're so close to being 21, but yet so far.
It sucks. All your friends are starting to turn the magical age of 21. You see each and every one of them hit the bars on their birthday, and you're just waiting for that day, patiently (eagerly would actually be a much better word). It's unfair, and you have major FOMO because you still have to attend the frat parties with all the freshman.
4. People ask you, "What are you doing once you graduate?" but you're only 20. How are you supposed to know?
This is so annoying. We get this question every time we see our relatives. Maybe, if you let us make our own big life decisions, then we would know what we are doing. Stop treating us like teens and expecting us to know what we are doing with our future career. Thanks.
5. Then you start stressing about your future because so many people ask you about it.
Oh my gosh! Am I the only one that doesn't know exactly what I am doing in the future? Wow. I am going to be homeless and jobless. I suck, dropping out of college, okay, bye.
All 20-year-olds out there, stop stressing because eventually we will reach 21, and this phase of life will be over. We're so close, and yet so far.
