Nothing in summer can quite compare to local or county fairs in the summertime. There is something enticing and alluring when all the fair rides are lit up at night that draws people to a fair. A carnival is a warm welcome to the possibilities of summer. Here are five reasons why fairs are one of the best things about summer:
Reason 1: The Food
There is something extra delicious about the food at fairs. From fried oreos to the funnel cakes. The best part about carnivals is that there is so much variety in the food options. There are countless food trucks and a huge food tent for everyone to enjoy. The food at fairs in the summer never quite compare to the food anywhere else.
Reason 2: The Rides
Carnivals are known for their rides. From the classical Ferris Wheel where you can see the entire fair below you, to the dangerous yet thrilling Zipper ride where you cannot see anything (except your life flashing before your eyes). Going on carnival rides makes you feel like a five year old again, no matter how old you are.
Reason 3: The 50/50 Raffles
Every year at fairs there are countless 50/50 raffles that are held each hour throughout the night of the fair. Even though the chances of winning are slim to none, there still is that glimmer of hope that if you win the 50/50 cash prize you can pay for gas for the rest of the summer, or food. The 50/50 raffles gives you the hope that maybe you can pay for college if you in fact win the grand prize 50/50. Each year your ticket never gets pulled, but that doesn’t stop you from trying next year.
Reason 4: The Games
Even though most (by most I mean all) of the games at fairs are rigged, they are addicting. Whether you are competing against your friends or family members, carnival games are just as entertaining as they are addicting. From the hitting the bulls-eye with a water gun to trying to accomplish the ring toss, the fair would not be the same without these games.
Reason 5: The Memories
The greatest part about going to a fair (besides all the reasons listed above) are the people you go with. From catching up with old friends to going on rides with your family members, the memories made at fairs are unforgettable. Summer traditions are born with family and friends at fairs. From going on the ferris wheel to watching the sunset, to eating classic fried oreos, these traditions only happen once a year. As time goes on these traditions and memories become more precious and valuable, and your local fair becomes a mini holiday you and your friends have created.
Fairs kickoff our summer in the best way possible. They give us a glimpse to the fun that the summer holds to even maybe money to pay off our loans, either way, going to your local fair is starting your summer off right.
