Ever struggle with finding the right way to express yourself to BAE? Ever find yourself less than the poster-child of the romantic ideal? Here are 10 random romantic facts that will either help or hinder you in your endeavor to woo the bae.

1. When a male penguin falls in love with a female penguin, he searches the entire beach to find the perfect pebble to present to her.

You don’t always need the most expensive present, you need the one that shows you care the most. Something as simple as a clothes button with her favorite TV show on it at least tells her that you’re listening. Search that beach and find that pebble.

2. When a person blushes, the lining of their stomach also turns red.

Sometimes, it’s easy to read signs from your wooing partner. Sometimes a brush of hair behind the ear or a good old rosy cheek lets you know you’re doing something right, but it’s not always easy. The important thing to remember from this fact is that everything you say or do leaves its mark inside of a person. That can either be good or bad. Make it good.

3. When a person cries and the first drop of tears comes from the right eye, it's happiness. If it comes from the left eye, it’s pain.

Remember that what a person does is not always representative of how they feel. We often use conflicting actions to cover how we feel. We cry when we’re sad, we cry when we’re happy. Sometimes we laugh when we’re nervous, or when we’re actually happy. When on a first date, or the early stages of a relationship, keep this in mind. Don’t take face value for face value. Look at why the other would act the way they do.

4. Having bridesmaids in a wedding wasn’t originally for moral support. They were intended to confuse evil spirits of those who wished to harm the bride.

A girl’s best friend is also her biggest body guard. You don’t always have to like a girl’s best friend, you guys don’t even have to be friends yourself (although this often can be a big boost in a relationship), but it’s important to at least get along with a girl’s right-hand person. They can often be a good ally in helping you figure out your bae’s emotional habits and a good third party peace navigator if she isn’t too biased towards her friend. This can also be a good source of information on what to get your love in terms of gifts or remembering birthdays and special events.

5. The original recipe for chocolate contained chili powder instead of sugar.

Sometimes, your girl needs a little spice mixed in with the sweetness. It’s okay to be a little adventurous, a little sensuous. Girls do want a nice man, but occasionally it’s nice to have someone who’s a little silly, spontaneous, and rebellious.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
