5 Quotes To Keep In Mind During Finals Week
The Odyssey

Finals week is here, and aside from exams, you may have an endless amount papers and presentations to deal with as well. The last weeks of the semester are the most intense time of the year, and it's hard to stay motivated through all the stress. By the end, you're probably going to look a lot like Squidward here:

But have no fear! Here are some inspirational quotes to help keep your head up when you'd rather leave it on your pillow.

1. "My philosophy is that worrying means you suffer twice."

Newt Scamander, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I know, it's hard not to worry. When you're spending the majority of your life studying, it's near impossible not to have some stress and fear hanging over you. It's our natural instinct. Just try not to sweat it too much! In just a few weeks, you'll (hopefully) have some well deserved time to relax.

2. "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Andy Dufresne, The Shawshank Redemption

We all hope for good grades, a good career one day, and a good life; it's easy to lose hope when your brain is overflowing with definitions and concepts and charts, and whatever else you've been studying for the past 48 hours straight. Don't lose that hope, because even if you don't receive the marks you expected, there's still a future beyond finals week to look forward to.

3. "Calling someone stupid doesn't make you any smarter."

Cady Heron, Mean Girls

That means you, too! Not understanding something doesn't mean you're stupid. It takes time to learn, and some concepts are harder to grasp than others. Just focus on what you do know, and try to master that; it'll come in handy if you're given an essay or short-answer based portion of an exam.

4. "However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at."

Stephen Hawking, The Theory of Everything

Again, not understanding something in one of your classes or doing bad on your finals isn't the end of the world. Even the smartest students might have trouble succeeding in the "real world." All that matters in the end is how hard you try to strive for what you truly want.

5. Finally, this one's pretty self-explanatory...

Shia LeBeouf

I know just how badly you want to give up, because I do too. This week is hard. Life is hard, as a college student. I'd rather drop out of school entirely than go through the next two weeks. But when things gets rough -- like right now -- ya' gotta do what ya' gotta do. This will be over soon, so until then, just hang in there.

two women enjoying confetti

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
