With a new year and a new semester starting, you've made yourself a lot of promises that you hope you'll be able to keep. Whether they're with school, yourself or your relationships with other people, you want a fresh start and hope, with your mistakes and lessons learned to guide you, to hold yourself to a higher standard this time around. If you're looking for a little inspiration or just something to keep you going today, write these quotes in your planner/ save them on your phone and go kick some ass.

1. "Life gets better when you pay more attention to how you want to spend your Monday mornings than how you want to spend your Friday nights."

This is a great one to remind you that all this work you're doing, juggling school and friends and work and whatever else, is for a reason. And it's important to focus on loving what you're doing, so you can stop just looking forward to the weekends and start looking forward to waking up every morning.

(I don't know who said this, but it comes from the #BossBabe Instagram page, which is a great one to follow)

2. "Start now. Start where you are. Start with fear. Start with pain. Start with doubt. Start with hands shaking. Start with the voice trembling but start. Start and don't stop. Start where you are, with what you have... Just start." -Anonymous

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but just remember the first step is always the hardest, but nothing will get easier unless you just force yourself to take it.

3. "If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave." -Mo Willems

A little reminder that you never have to stay in any situation that doesn't suit you. Whether it's boys, a class, a job, friends, living situation, anything. If it doesn't grow you, help you, learn you or change you, it's not benefitting you and you are allowed to walk away. You have the power at any given moment to decide that this isn't how you want your story to end. Keep that in mind.

4. "You wouldn't worry so much about what others thought of you if you realized how seldom they do." -Eleanor Roosevelt

This is your journey. Not anyone else's. So even though it's a difficult thing to get passed, anything anyone else thinks doesn't affect you. You can't control other people or their opinions of you, all you can control is yourself. And when you begin to focus on yourself and let the negative thoughts of others fall behind you, beautiful things happen.

5. "The most reliable way to predict the future is to create it." -Unknown

Are you concerned about what the future holds? Scared of the unknown? Great. Go out and do everything you can to create the future you want. Big or little, everything helps. When you know with every ounce of your being that you've done all you can to further your dreams, there's less to be scared of.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
