When I tell people that my birthday is on New Year's Eve, I'm used to them looking at me like I was actually born on another planet. It's totally fine though, I guess having a birthday on a holiday is pretty cool. I always use it as my fun fact for icebreakers because it's one of the few things that is interesting about my life. Anyway, here are some questions I get asked when I tell people what day my birthday is on:
1. So you were born on New Years' Day?
Actually no, I was born the last day of the year, not the first. But hey, is it really that much of a difference? And to answer that question, yes, actually because my birth year is the one that is mine forever even though I was literally alive in that year for less than 24 hours.
2. Wow! Do you party on your birthday?
Not once in my 19 years of living have I consumed alcohol on my birthday (my parents would kill me!) I'll have to wait another couple years for that. Besides, I like spending time with my friends and family on my birthday! They always know how to make it special for me.
3. Do you get extra presents if your birthday is so close to Christmas?
I always get extra presents from my parents (thanks mom and dad), but I have to wait 6 days to open them after Christmas, which is fair. Many of my friends don't get me a gift for my birthday and only give me a gift for Christmas but I totally understand because life is expensive. I always appreciate a nice homemade card, it's the thought that counts, right?
4. Were you born close to January 1st?
Actually, no. This is a pretty good question though because my life would be a lot more interesting if I was born at 11:59 on December 31. I was born in the morning because I guess I didn't want to wait to be born in another year!
5. Oh! So you were a tax baby?
Yep. The good thing about being born on the very last day of the year is that my parents didn't have to wait for the new year to claim me! In my case, being born on the last day came in clutch.
