Are they your friend, or your BEST friend?

5 Qualities To Define Your Best Friends

There is a huge difference between "friends" and "best friends." As you read through the list, see how many of these apply to you and your best friends.

1. They try to "change" you for the better.

They love your personality and all, I mean they kind of have to… You keep them sane while driving them insane and are the sweetheart of the friend group (not trying to toot my own horn), but they want to try to drag you (kindly, of course, maybe with a food incentive) to the dark side with them… but you will always be your sweet lil’ self, just now with a lil’ sassier side.

2. You have a "signature" picture pose with them.

No matter where y’all go, a picture must be taken, at least two… one regular and one in your ‘signature’ pose. Whether it is the cliché best friend hands holding pose or a piggy back… The picture encompasses the two of you… and if it’s a candid: even better.

3. They trust you enough to text boys for them.

“Can you text them for me please? I’m challenged in that area.” (LT). When your friends have enough confidence in you to text a boy for them that they have interest in… that’s a pretty big deal. Witty, sarcastic, and sassy comments can always make things interesting... for everyone.

4. When they do something outside the norm of their personality and you question the sincerity of it.

The best kind of friendship is when you and the other person know each other better than they know themselves. It’s scary yet amazing and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You call each other out on everything, especially when they do something, and you’re like “are you kidding?” Whether it’s being shockingly nice and not their usual sarcastic self, or them calling you out for being sassy and not your usual sweet self; it’s great and it shows how much you rub off on one another, and the growth and strength of the friendship.

For example:

Friend A: I laughed at the smiley face you sent at the end of that text… It came off as kind of b*tchy to me… like I just thought of the idea of you sending it and I was like lol is she kidding?

Friend B: No it was real! I was trying to be nice!!!

*later that day*

Friend A: Hey, can you help me with this real quick?

Friend B: Hold on, I’m doing my own thing.

Friend A: You suck, see this is why I didn’t consider the sincerity of your smiley face earlier to be legit!

5. They just overall help make you into the best version of yourself.

They push you to be you: no matter what. They support you unconditionally, silly decisions and all. They will be right next to you, walking home at 2 a.m., calling someone to drive you for French fries… waking up the person… and proceeding to call them even though you know they’re asleep. They will be right there when you shatter your iPhone screen walking home, and right there when you call someone and blame them for breaking your phone… when they were nowhere near you when it broke. They make you laugh harder, smile bigger, love unconditionally, and just live your life overall better. They’re always right there, as you’re having an allergic reaction, recording your lisp from your swollen mouth/tongue to SnapChat to everyone you know. They always check your pimples for you (TMI, but I don’t really care), and tell you if you have a booger hangin’ out (or just slightly noticeable). They will jam out to throwbacks with you at any time of day at the loudest possible volume, screaming along, because “maybe it’s not my weekend, but it’s gonna be my year.” Overall, there are literally no words that can be formulated to properly give thanks to this person, (more so, these people), who are there for you, no matter what, and love you despite you being you.

If one or more apply to you and your best friends, you have some amazing best friends, and they deserve the biggest thank you, and the most love you can give.

Thank you and shout out to my best friends included in this… You may not be digitally featured, but you know who you are, and I love you all so much.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
