Well, it's officially Fall, the most beautiful time of the year! The leaves are turning different colors, the air is crisp and Halloween decorations are finally coming out of their storage bins! When St. Ambrose students are away from home during this season, they look into places near Davenport. Here are 5 places to visit in Davenport during the fall season!

Asylum of Mad Dreams:

Located in Cordova, IL this haunted attraction is definitely one to visit, especially with Halloween right around the corner. Asylum of Mad Dreams, about a 30 minute drive from St. Ambrose's campus, will be totally worth the drive and will scare your pants off! Be sure to go with a bunch of friends who don't mind you holding their hands and screaming in their ears because that's what will happen once you step foot in the asylum of mad dreams.

Buffalo Pumpkin Patch:

This small pumpkin patch can be found in Buffalo, IA, about 20 minutes away from campus. Buffalo Pumpkin Patch includes hay rides, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, a petting zoo and so much more fun activities for any ages!

Stone's Apple Barn:

Located in East Moline, IL, this small apple orchard lets you pick from various different apples (when in season). There are 55 different options to choose from. You are able to pick your own apples, go on hay rides pulled by tractors, and feed small animals.

Copper Creek Trail:

This trail is a walking trail that only lasts about a mile long. Even though its short, it would be nice to enjoy the light, cool breeze that an autumn day would bring. This trail is located in the small town of Preston.

Tailgating at a football game:

LET'S GO FIGHTING BEES! Homecoming is this Saturday which means there will be tailgating in the parking lot before the game. Grab a bunch of other Fighting Bee fans, get some good food and enjoy a game of football. While the air is not too hot, nor too cold, put on a sweater, stand in the bleachers, and cheer on your favorite team!

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
