I've been privileged enough to ride horses all across the state of Virginia, and even in a few neighboring states. Though I don't name every place to ride in our great state, here are just a few of my favorites.
1. Jefferson National Forest.
We travel to Iron Mountain Horse Camp in Cripple Creek, VA at least once a year. There are trails that leave the camp and connect with state forest trails, making for a beautiful ride through the rolling hills of Wythe County.
2. Grayson Highlands.
If you've never been to Grayson Highlands to ride horses or even hike, you are definitely missing out. We were lucky enough to pet the wild ponies during our last visit.
3. Eastern Shore.
If you haven't had the chance to ride on the beach of the Eastern Shore at least once, I highly recommend you take the time to cross it off of your bucket list.
4. Pleasant Grove, Palmyra, VA.
It was a bit difficult to find pictures of horse trails at Pleasant Grove, but if you like state park riding, this one is worth checking out.
5. Occoneechee State Park, Clarksville, VA.
A beautiful place to ride that's not too far from those located in central VA.
These are just a few places to ride in different parts of Virginia. If you're a fan of riding in state parks, check out what your state has to offer. Mountain rides make for fun weekends with friends and family, and even better photo ops!
