Dalton State

Every Dalton State College student is issued a Roadrunner ID card during their first year at the school. Do you only use it for printing and getting your DSC basketball game tickets? Well, I hope not. If that is what you have been doing, you're really missing out. It turns out that your Roadrunner ID is a lot more beneficial than you may have thought. There are some local businesses that support Dalton State students, faculty, and staff by rewarding us with a discount at their stores.

Each business offers at least a 10 percent discount, but it can vary by location. So, the next time that you visit one of these locations, don't forget to pull out your Roadrunner ID and find out what kind of discount you are entitled to receive.

1. AT&T

If you're an AT&T customer, you can save money by showing your Roadrunner ID to the AT&T located at 1526 W Walnut Avenue in Dalton. You could be missing out on saving yourself a little money. They offer a 15 percent discount to Dalton State College students, faculty, and staff. So, make sure that you have applied your discount and take advantage of being a part of Roadrunner Nation!

2. Bruster's Real Ice Cream

The next time that you stop by Bruster's on Dug Gap Road in Dalton, reward yourself with a triple scoop of ice cream, sundae, or banana split. Make sure to show your Roadrunner ID because they will get you 10 precent off of your purchase!

3. Dalton Falls Golf

Dalton Falls is a great place to go on a date or spend time with your family. They have a really fun mini golf course that you probably never knew you could be saving money on! They're located at 2817 Airport Road in Dalton. Every day students who show their Roadrunner ID can play mini golf for $6 (one dollar off regular price), and on Wednesdays students can play for only $5.

4. Mr. T's Pizza & Ice Cream

Mr. T's is located in Dalton on N Tibbs Road and offers a 10 percent discount if you show your Roadrunner ID. It doesn't apply to coca cola products, but if you want a bargain on your pizza, this is the place to go!

5. Schlotzsky's

The next time you stop by Schlotzsky's on Walnut Avenue in Dalton, remember that they offer 10 percent off of your order with your Roadrunner ID. Be sure to ask about any restrictions!

There are more participating businesses where these came from. Be sure to check for signs in other local stores that indicate that they are participating in the Roadrunner Discount program. It never hurts to ask—especially when you're broke. So the next time that you are out at one of these supporting businesses, please thank them for contributing to the Dalton State community as you enjoy your discount!

Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.

This week, my parents went on vacation and left me with the responsibility of watching the house and the dog. Easy, right? Feed the dog, don’t burn the house down, do whatever you want within reason. I’m not the type to throw wild parties or have a parade of hookups, and my parents know this. The most I do is bring my laptop into the family room and refuse to use headphones.
