Take a look in your closet. That new pair of jeans or cool new necklace you got might not be an entirely new idea. For generations, fashion has been recycled through the fashion cycle over and over again, leaving us with fads and trends. We now know this as fast fashion. Fringes are cool now, but will likely be forgotten in a couple of months. Chances are that this same fringe style that we thought had died may very well creep up on us 10 years from now! This list names five items that have successfully made their rounds in the fashion cycle, and I bet you own at least one of them!
1. Chokers
Remember when you were in elementary school and those stretchy black chokers were all the rage? Well, that fad fizzled out for a while. Until now! Stretchy chokers have come back full swing, bringing modern versions along with them. There is now a huge variety of chokers, including metal versions and other, more intricate chains. It seems that goth and grunge will never die.
2. Mom jeans.
These are those jeans that our moms and their friends laugh at our generation for wearing. They cringe at the site of us rocking high-waisted anything, but without a doubt, this trend is back and its everywhere. The high waist doesn’t stop at jeans. It can be seen on skirts and shorts alike. The wash of the jean plays a big role in this as well. You know that extra blue but slightly faded look? That’s what the ladies of our moms’ generation hate! I’m sure one day we will all look back and say "What were we thinking?" But for now, they are perfect for those crop top days, so they can stay.
3. Jean mini skirts
One word: Abercrombie. Remember walking into the heavily perfumed, dark lit room also known as Abercrombie? Spending countless dollars on the perfect jean mini skirt was worth it, because you’d be way on trend when you hung out with your friends. As with all great things, there comes an end. The jean mini skirt no longer made the same impression it had for a long while. But the summer of 2015 brought the denim mini back from the dead. Celebs like Kendall Jenner were spotted on social media rocking their throwback look, causing the skirt to stick once again! Though not as trendy as it once was, talk of the revival of the mini skirt still made its rounds on social media sites.
4. Platform boots
Platform boots were huge in the disco/go-go era. The late 60’s to 70’s were riddled with six plus inches of platform boots. Companies like Jeffrey Campbell and Steve Madden have taken it upon themselves to bring them back. Modern versions, such as thigh high boots, also have taken inspiration from that time period. You know those pumps you rock when you’re going out with your friends? They might look a little less goofy than they used to, but they are still the same recycled idea!
5. Culottes
These date back to the early nineteenth century, and were generally worn by men! Women picked this style back up in the 1960’s. They dropped off one more time until present day, where we have given them another go! Some people hate them and some people love them, and that probably has to do with how interested in fashion the person is. This is a great example of how most styles are recycled and revamped for modern tastes. I guess that means that nothing is really original!
