5 Perks of Traveling While You're Young
Abigail Krysczak

From an early age, I've been brought up travelling a ton, whether it was just to the east coast shore or across the world. Most people have some type of drive to go out and experience the world, but some don't. For me, seeing a new culture is the best thing ever. I love getting involved in a culture halfway across the country or even somewhere just hours from my home. Every place is unique and experiencing these places while you're young has its many benefits.

1. While jet lag is still a thing, it's much easier and faster to overcome when you're young.

Yes, whenever there's any type of time change, there will be some type of jet lag. We all have experienced it if we've travelled somewhere 6+ hours ahead or behind. When you're young, the jet lag seems to almost disappear and you can push yourself through the day because you're just that determined to see the place you just arrived to.

2. You have all the energy in the world.

You have the ability to hit the ground running from the second you step off that airplane of out of that car. You take the city by storm and start visiting those places you've been craving to visit for so long right away. Even when you're tired, you still manage to run yourself for a solid 12 hours without dying. You go go go all day long to make sure everything you want to do has a time and place.

3. Friends are always willing to tag along.

When you travel when you're young, especially while you're in college, breaks tend to match up with your friends which means you always have a travelling partner. There's always a friend that has been dying to see that same place you have, and decides to tag along. It makes for a much more social and special trip.

4. Adventure is around every corner, and you usually tend to take it.

When you're young, the thought of backpacking through hostels and getting to see twenty cities rather than one city for four times the money usually seems more appealing. Now I'm not saying that is always the case, cause I can sometimes go for a nice 5 star resort but getting to experience the world for cheap strikes my attention. There's also so many things to do wherever you travel designated specifically for younger people so it makes for such a fun atmosphere, and you tend to gravitate towards these events or activities when you're younger.

5. All the food you're eating somehow doesn't show five seconds after eating it.

You have every option to eat three kielbasa sandwiches while you're in Poland. Why? Because you a) don't care if you gain the weight cause you can burn it off easily or b) it just doesn't seem to appear on your body which is a blessing. When you're young and your metabolism is at its best, you don't care what exotic foods you're eating as long as you get to try them in the first place. What's going to a unique place without trying it's food?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
