So needless to say anyone who has been in a long distance relationship can tell you that it is hard. It’s an experience filled with missing your person until it hurts your very fundamental being, Skype, and missed calls and voicemails. I know. BUT, I am going to try and stay optimistic about the whole thing and give 7 reasons why sometimes, long distance can be a good thing or even fun.

1. You get to miss that person

I think that when you are constantly around your significant other, you get into a routine of things. Being with them becomes part of your day, and hey, it’s the best. But, being away from each other gives you and your person a chance to miss each other and to truly appreciate the time you have.

2. Commitment

Granted, the fact that long distance tests your relationship isn’t always fun. But it is rewarding. By the end of the day, you know that they will (literally) go that extra mile for you. It’s a sign that they are commuted to your relationship and you.

3. Spontaneity

Being apart means you have the chance to get a little crafty and organize surprises for your person and brighten their day. I got sent a little surprise box filled with gifts and it was the best and cutest thing ever. Made only more special by the fact I was having a tough and stressful week and it made me feel like he was there, or at least thinking of me.

4. Excitement

I don’t think there is a better feeling than starting your busy college life week and knowing that at the end of it, you will get to visit your significant other or have them visit you. Seriously, it’s like having a million cups of coffee and just plowing through your day.

5. Trials

Being long distance is hard. It doesn’t just test your relationship; it makes it go through different trials you may not have had to go through being in the same zip code. For one, it teaches the importance of communication and the need to be able to maneuver your way through different stages of life together (event if your apart).

At the end of it all, there are probably many more hard things about being in a long distance relationship. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the perks of it too.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
