Spring has sprung!

That time has officially come upon us. Spring has sprung. Hopefully for the places that experience an actual winter, that means that Mother Nature has finished her cold torture and is taking a break for a little to prepare for her heated torture. Lucky for us, that means we get a nice break too. A couple months of just right temperatures, light breezes and things all around coming to life. With the coming seasonal change, I decided to list some of the best parts of Spring.

1. The Weather

As I said before. Spring brings a change in the weather (if you're lucky). It's the season right after winter and right before summer. It's the meat between the bread slices of freezing and sweaty hot. It comes with the hopefulness that nice weather is here to stay and that snow and ice has been officially kicked off the show. Spring weather is literally the most perfect weather. Light breezes, warm temperatures, sun. It's not too cold and not to hot. It eases us into the melting heat that is summer.

2. The Flowers

If you know me you know I love flowers. And nature. And anything outside. Irregardless, the flowers are one of my favorite parts of spring. Especially tulips. I love seeing the tulips pop up out of their underground home they hibernated in all fall and winter til the time was right. It's like a wonderful greeting from nature letting us all know it's time for the sun to hang out and the father snow to GTFO. And they are so pretty. Brightening everything around us up.

3. Ice Cream

Springtime always means the majority of the ice cream places that don't stay open all year long, will start opening their doors and firing up those ice cream makers. Now I am a firm believer that ice cream is good all year around, despite the temperature outside, You can always catch me with a cone in my hand in 0 degree weather and again n 80 degree weather. However, a nice cold ice cream cone is so much more refreshing and enjoyable when it's a little warmer outside. It's also nice because since it's not super hot outside yet, you don't have to race the melting ice cream and temporarily freeze your brain in the process. Take it slow, one lick at a time. There is no rush during the spring.

4. Spring Wardrobe

Even though I'm a big fan of the fall and winter wardrobe, I do love me some pretty, flowy spring dresses. Best time to bust those puppies out is spring! Also gotta love those open toed shoes and sandals too.

5. The Smell

Spring smells absolutely amazing and you don't know what I'm talking about then you should step outside on your front lawn after it's just been mowed. The greatest smell on earth right there. Fresh cut grass, flowers, spring breeze. Sure my allergies act up really bad in the spring but it's definitely a fair trade off for these fantastic smells.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
