Netflix. It’s a college staple similar to “Ramen Noodles” or “Easy Mac”. Every college student has an account, and there was even a term coined after it in the past year. (Netflix and chill?) I find Netflix an easy, and cheap, way to watch my favorite shows and even some interesting movies. There are plenty of worse things to be addicted to, so don't be ashamed of your watching habits. I consider myself to be quite the avid Netflix watcher, binge watching it for 12+ hours at a time, so I figured I’d use my binge watching super power for good… Here are a few, my top 5, recommendations for novel watchers:
Grey’s Anatomy
Perfect mix of comedy, drama, and heartbreak. Just when you think everything is okay, Shonda Rhimes rips your still-beating heart out of your chest. Cristina Yang brings the perfect amount of sarcasm to fit along with Meredith's "dark and twisty" persona. Regardless of all the tears you may lose, the perfection of the relationship between Meredith and Derek (Mostly Derek... I mean Patrick Dempsey is just beautiful) makes you want to stick around for 12 seasons. 10/10 worth it.
The Office
The employees of Dunder Mifflin star in a “mockumentary” in which their shenanigans and foolery are the star. You’ll fall in love with the relationship between Pam and Jim, and laugh at every goofy stunt Michael pulls. It starts off small and builds into each and every character. Michael Scott is a legend, with his eccentric business ideals and foolery everyday in the office. One of my personal all time favorites… Trust me, you’ll love it.
Friends
Set in the 1990’s, this show follows the lives of 6 best friends, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Chandler, Monica, and Joey, who live in Manhattan. You’ll find that you can easily relate to the lives of each, even if you don’t live in New York and hangout in a coffee house everyday. Through every twist and turn, you grow to love the characters even more. It’s one of those shows you wish would have never ended!
New Girl
Jessica Day finds friendship in the form of new roommates after her boyfriend cheat on her. She follows through with a Craigslist ad and meets Winston, Nick, and Schmidt. In the end, these 3 guys bring Jess in like family and even more than that (spoiler alert...sorry). Jess’ quirky personality is hard not to love, and in my personal opinion Schmidt, as womanizing as he can be, is absolutely hilarious.
Parks and Recreation
A show set in a fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana that focuses on the town’s government specifically Leslie Knope. Amy Poehler is one of my favorite actresses and I think she plays a high-strung, enthusiastic Leslie Knope perfectly. Her daily antics in the Parks and Rec department of Pawnee, alongside the antics of Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt aka YUM), Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) and lastly but not least Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) create a hilarious and lovable show.
