The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan
This book is a contemplation of essays and stories from a talented Yale student. These aren’t typical essays, however. This is the work of a woman trying to figure herself out, trying to figure life out. She is a woman willing to look into life’s uncertainty. Some of these stories are true, and some are fiction, can you spot the difference?
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers
I’m pretty sure I cried throughout this whole book (because it was that good). This book is based off of the story of a man named Hosea in the bible. It is mostly from the perspective of a prostitute. The book starts out by explaining her childhood and all the reasons that led her to where she was. She meets a man who tries to save her. This is a must read!
IT by Stephen King
You know how everyone says that books are always waayyy better than the movie? Well, this book is a great example. Even if you have seen the movie, Stephen King uses such detail and vivid imagery in this book that a movie screen could never capture. The book is creepier and more terrifying. If you haven’t seen the movie, then you’re in for a terrific surprise (Hope you aren’t scared of clowns).
I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier
I think this is one of my all time favorites. This book was written in 1977, and there aren’t any books with this kind of story-line anymore! It's about an old man who has trouble remembering his childhood. He talks to a counselor to try to the remember details of his early life. A majority of the book contains flashbacks to his childhood. He talks about a girl he liked, running away from home, and a dark family secret.
Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Okay, Okay…you can skip this one if you hate old literature. But for some reason I really loved this play. It is hilarious and heart breaking at the same time. It is ranked among the most powerful and influential tragedies in literature, with a story capable of "seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others". It’s hard to sum it all up, but it has love, murder, and even ghosts!
