In This Article:

Once a year, we celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports day. It seems as though we celebrate mens sports nearly everyday, but never recognize the accomplishments of women. As an aspiring woman in sports, I chose to highlight my five favorite women's sports moments. I hope that we continue to break barriers, glass ceilings, and male dominated fields. Bianca Smith

The first black woman to coach professional baseball, and she is not stopping there. Right now she is breaking barriers as the Red Sox minor league coach, and one day hopes to become a major league manager. Link to photo

Mississippi State Women's Basketball

As a Mississippi State student, I couldn't leave this one out. in 2017 our women's basketball team narrowly upsets UConn with a final score of 66-64. Hail state to that!

Sarah Fuller

Vanderbilt women's soccer player turned college football kicker. She became the first woman to play in a Power 5 conference.

Kim Ng

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school.
