This year has been one of the craziest and best of my entire life. I’ve still got plenty to learn, but here are some nuggets of wisdom I’ve filed away throughout these past 12 months with some quotes from my favorite show of all time, New Girl.

1- Rain jackets are essential to survival.

In fact, all rain gear. Umbrellas, rain boots, rain jackets. When it rains, it’s borderline apocalyptic. Be ready

2- Stock up on Easy Mac.

For those days when you’re way too much of a hermit to walk the few feet to the dining hall and just want to snuggle away your problems in bed with some powdery cheesy pasta. It’s more expensive than Ramen, but definitely worth it. Definitely.

3- Even though it’s a cliché, join a club.

It’s nice to belong to something. To have the routine of weekly meetings, to do community service together, to just have people you know you can depend on. Community is valuable.

4-Budget for coffee. You will be buying massive quantities.

Coffee is the one thing, other than ibuprofen, that nearly every college student relies on in a scary way. I thought I was dependent before college. They may as well just put in IV’s for students taking more than 15 hours.

5- Prepare for finals like squirrels prepare for winter.

Stock up on clean fluffy socks, extra money for coffee, any kind of sugary item that you can think of to give you extra energy, extra notebook paper, but most importantly, SLEEP.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
