Well we've all been there, we find ourselves starting a brand new year but have that same old new years resolution we couldn't stick to in the past. But we keep going back because we think that maybe this year will be different. Instead of that same old cookie cutter resolution of going to the gym more or eating healthier (which never actually happens) here are 5 new years resolutions you'll actually want to keep.

1. Make time to explore more.

One resolution you will never regret is making more time to explore. A lot of times we get way too caught up in our busy and stressful lives that we don't make time to explore. We get comfortable in our familiar circle and forget that there's an entire world of places and experiences to be taken advantage of. Making time to explore a different city or country is an awesome resolution that will be easy to stick to.

2. Smile more.

There's an old saying which says that simply smiling at someone can completely make their day. Smiling at someone, whether a stranger or an old friend, can make the difference between a good or bad day for them. It's an easy way to spread kindness because in reality, you never really know what the other person is going through. Smiling more often not only can make us live a happier life, but can also spread kindness around.

3. Make some new friends.

Friends can turn a crappy day into one of the best days of your life. So another possible resolution for the new year is to try to make new friends. Connections are great things to have, plus it's nice to actually mean it when you say you have friends in high places. The more friends the better and its those new friends you can make this year that will really make this coming year one for the record books.

4. Travel.

We're only given a short amount of time on this earth and we each get to choose how to live it. Traveling to a new country and being able to take in a different language, land and culture is an essential part of life. So why not use up those saved vacation days and take the time to travel to another country, learn another language and enjoy the cuisine.

5. Do something out of your comfort zone.

That yoga class, cooking class or camping trip you would usually never be caught dead doing, try to make time for it. A new year is all about new experiences and living each one of the next 365 days to the max. So doing something which you normally would never do in the past should be at the top of everyone's resolutions lists. A lot of people are looking for something to get them out of the rut they may have been in the past year, and this resolution could be the answer they've been searching for.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
