I would consider myself a bit of documentary junkie. The easiest way for me to access a plethora of documentaries is through Netflix. Although I watch documentaries of all types, I normally find myself gravitating towards sports documentaries. So if you are like me and you love sports, here are some documentaries available on Netflix that you might love.
1. The Battered Bastards of Baseball
As a baseball lover, this may be my favorite documentary of all time. If you are into Thibaseball or stories about an underdog, you should definitely give this a watch. It's a story about a 1970s independent minor league team, the Portland Mavericks. The Mavericks were somewhat of a rag-tag team of players that were kicking major butt - literally major league affiliated teams - and taking names.
2. The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young
The Barkley Marathons is an ultra marathon that takes places in Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee. The runners are subjected to a 100 mile race, approximately, that has a time limit of only 60 hours. The race only accepts 40 participants each year. In the past 31 years, the full race has only been completed 17 times by 14 people - crazy, right?!
3. Last Chance U
Last Chance U is a documentary series that follows the football program of East Mississippi Community College. The program accepts players that may not have the best track record or recruiting opportunities out of high school and conditions them to become top athletes at Division 1 institutions.
4. IVERSON
This narrative gives you an inside look at the life and career of 11-time NBA all-star Allen Iverson. Iverson is, without a doubt, a basketball legend and this documentary highlights that. As a Sixers fan, IVERSON gets a 10/10 from me.
5. Happy Valley
As a warning, this film covers the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. With that being said, it features some interesting perspectives on the case and its effects on Penn State University. This documentary has been met with scrutiny by some and praise by others. Regardless, this film is definitely interesting and worth a view.
