My hometown, Monroe, may be small, but it has a lot more to offer than most think. One of my favorite features and favorite photography locations happens to be the beautiful woodlands surrounding us. In true Louisiana form, many of the parks around here feature towering cypress trees and oak trees (just to list very minimum tree types), vast bayous, deep rich blue ponds, lakes and rivers, and some of the most beautiful plants and sunsets I've ever witnessed. Here's a list of my favorite nature spots I'd like to share with you...
1. Black Bayou
One of the most popular areas, Black Bayou has various trails to do some hiking, walk dogs, field trips, homecoming/prom pictures, family portraits, a perfect place for a first date, and so much more. If you go up 165 North towards Sterlington, you can find this lovely place to check out.
2. Forsythe Park
The almost best-kept secret of breath-taking landscapes is right in the heart of the garden district. If you're on Riverside Drive or coming down from Forsythe Avenue, If you turn right (Forsythe Avenue), or go straight (riverside dr.) over the hill next to the levee, you'll come across a boat ramp, some picnic/lounge spots, and volleyball courts - go a little further and you'll find this pretty spot and all sorts of trails to enjoy and get lost in the scenery. In fact, this picture below was taken during my painting class.
3. Restoration Park
Travel to West Monroe, towards the IKE Hamilton center and you'll be at the doorstep of this nature treasure. With numerous bridges and boardwalks and miles of trails, you'll get the full advantage of the great outdoors.
4. Kiroli Park
For just $1, you can see all this park has to offer: a little nicer and further out than Forsythe Park, there's all sorts of playgrounds, walking trails and bridges, spots where you can fish, play baseball, soccer, kickball, A dog park, and much more. Also, it's a hot PokéStops for all you "Poké mon Go" enthusiasts.
5. Our university, the University of Louisiana at Monroe
Yes, U.L.M., especially to those who have never stopped between classes to take our school's scenery in, is super gorgeous. Take the side shortcut by the bridge to get to Strauss Hall to see a view like the one I photographed below. Take a walk on the footbridge near the dorms, or even go kayaking at the Wesley.
In sum, if you haven't been yet, I seriously recommend you try out these places next time you need some adventure or just want somewhere quiet and peaceful where you can enjoy being surrounded by wildlife and scenic aesthetics.
Go take a visit to these and more to take your nature vibes to the max!
Happy Exploring!
