I've been a music fanatic since my early teenage years. My music taste has evolved over the past ten years, and I'd like to say my tastes range from alternative rock and indie, to hip-hop/rap and EDM. There's a lot of music coming out right now from some incredible artists and I've been listening to music on Spotify nonstop. So, in honor of summer break coming up, here are five albums/artists you need to listen to this summer.
1. "More Life" -- Drake
Noteworthy Tracks:
"Free Smoke"
"Passionfruit"
"Portland"
"Glow"
You don't talk about hip-hop music without talking about Drake, and I thought he couldn't outdo himself after "Views." "More Life" gives "Views" a run for its money. "More Life" offers a renewed sense of clarity from Drake. The hooks are insane on this album, and the beats in this are just phenomenal.
2. "Memories...Do Not Open" -- Chainsmokers
Noteworthy Tracks--
"Break Up Every Night"
"My Type"
"Paris"
"Wake Up Alone" featuring Jhene Aiko
Finally dropping their debut album, The Chainsmokers have been releasing remixes of popular songs for years. "Memories...Do Not Open" offers easy to listen to electronic music that just screams summer.
3. "This Is: Blackbear" Spotify Playlist-- Blackbear
Noteworthy Tracks:
"Do Re Mi"
"Idfc"
"Califormula"
"Remember You" featuring G-Eazy.
A new face in the music industry, Blackbear will eventually become a name that will be in your repertoire after you listen to this comprehensive playlist. Playing with techno beats along with an almost melodic and synthesized lyrics, Blackbear entrances his audience with his music.
4. "DAMN." -- Kendrick Lamar
Noteworthy Tracks--
"DNA"
"LOYALTY" featuring Rihanna.
"HUMBLE"
Unequivocally one of the best albums of 2017, Kendrick Lamar dominates the hip-hop game and radio stations with his album "DAMN." With commanding hooks and philosophical lyrics, Lamar creates his own tone that differentiates him from his competition.
5. "Divide"-- Ed Sheeran
Noteworthy Tracks--
"Castle on the Hill"
"Galway Girl"
"What Do I Know?"
"Supermarket Flowers"
A distinct farewell from previous albums, Ed Sheeran dabbles back into the soft pop and singer/songwriter music he became known for. He brings along this newfound confidence and swagger that makes some of his music sexier rather than just sticking to his romantic ballads.
Hopefully these albums will help you ring in summer the right way!
