5 Upcoming Movies You Need to See

Some long overdue.

I am a big movie fanatic, and rumors about upcoming movies have been flying left and right. Here is a list of movies you should be looking forward to within the next two or three years:

1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (November 2016)

Based on J.K Rowling’s book, this movie takes place about seven decades before the Harry Potter era. The main character, Newt Scamander, completes a journey to document magical creatures from all over the world, and runs into a Muggle named Jacob. They have an adventure in catching some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, and have to save both the wizarding and Muggle worlds.

2. Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 2016)

The thrilling space saga reaches its eighth installment- after an overwhelming comeback with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This is a continuation of the story that began last December, with an immediate pickup from the scene with Rey and Luke Skywalker. Not many more details about the movie have been released, but we will definitely see characters like Ben Solo, Finn, and Leia Skywalker.

3. Beauty and the Beast (March 2017)

A modern adaption of the classic Disney princess tale. Emma Watson will play Belle, and Dan Stevens will play the Beast. They will keep the tale as similar to the original as possible, and keep the scoring the same. I have always wanted to see a live-action portrayal of this film, and hopefully more princess tales are in the remaking (Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel).

4. Avengers 3: Infinity War Part 1 (May 2018)

Following in the Marvel’s comic book pathway, this movie will feature all the Avengers reuniting, despite the ending of the last movie, where they seemed to go their separate ways. This two-parter (Part 2 to come in 2019), will involve the heroes battling Thanos, the alien warlord from Marvel’s other superhero mash-up, Guardians of the Galaxy. Exciting news has broken that Ant-Man, a.k.a Paul Rudd, will also be making an appearance in this 2018 flick.

5. The Incredibles 2 (June 2019)

This release is long overdue. I have been waiting for a sequel to this movie since I first saw it back in 2004. Rumors of a second film have been flying pretty much since then, as the end of the first movie hints at a sequel. Many movie critics and fans are speculating that this film will take place after the children have grown up, and feature Jack-Jack, the adorable baby, as a confused teenager that may join the dark side. More details to come.

Other movies to look out for:

2017:Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Justice League, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Fast 8, Power Rangers, Alien: Covenant, Transformers: The Last Knight, Cars 3, Baywatch, and Pitch Perfect 3. 2018:Toy Story 4, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Gigantic, Aquaman, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Avatar 2, Deadpool 2, and S.C.O.O.B.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
