With the recent presidential election coming to a close, a vast majority of America, especially Millennials, are infuriated that our new President-Elect is Donald J. Trump. Now, I did not vote for Trump and cannot condone anything he says or does, and I'm not even remotely thrilled about the fact that he will become the President of the United States come January 1st, 2017. However, I also acknowledge the fact that what's done is done, and that now all we can do is root for him to do well.
In light of that, I would like to remind everyone that no matter what happens with Donald Trump nd Mike Pence in office, it could always be worse. If you're feeling mega discouraged about the next four years as an American, watch the following five films, and I promise you'll be in a much better state of mind:
Independence Day (1996)

What's worse than a crappy president? An alien invasion, perhaps. Granted, the human race wins the fight at the conclusion of the film, but think of the devastation and horror that could and could occur in the event of a violent alien invasion. The Hunger Games (2012)

After a civil war (again) ripped the United States to literal shreds, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) finds herself in a society of hate and fear that ultimately operates on the annual Hunger Games tournament, which is that society's modern gladiator warfare. Just think, it could be worse, you could have to fight your best friend to the death or be killed by them. Appreciate your America.
Planet of the Apes (1968)

I would hope that this one would be pretty self explanatory... We could either be dead or being ruled by walking, talking, dictating apes. Now in my opinion, Donald Trump resembles a character from the Rugrats more than a primate.
I Am Legend (2007)

This movie is utterly terrifying from the very beginning. The idea of feeling like you could potentially be the only non-zombified human on the planet, or at least anywhere in your vicinity, is a scary enough thought on its own. But let's be honest, this film got 2000 times worse when he had to kill his dog. So just remember people, you could always be the last man on Earth who has to kill his only friend. #RIPSam.
2012 (2009)

I don't know about you, but the idea of the world literally crumbling around me with no way to escape, and having to accept my own imminent death and that of everyone I love, is pretty f**king scary to me. The craziest part is, with climate change, that is a literal possibility. Not saying it will be as dramatic as it is portrayed in the film 2012, but the planet is melting around us and it is currently at an unstoppable rate. If only the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) had more funding...oh wait, thanks The Donald.
Lastly, I would like to remind all my fellow Millennials that just because we are unhappy with who is in office does not give us the right to act like completely imbeciles. Humans are made to adapt, and so we will. We are expected to accept this, and so we will. Hate will divide our nation, and during this imperative time, that is the last thing we need. We may not be part of the Donald Trump fan club, but we need to root for him, because our country is in his hands now.
