The 5 Most Important Things To Remember When Interviewing

In This Article:

Interviewing is always hard and nerve-wracking. Being prepared is a great way to present yourself in the most professional and best way possible.

Create Rapport with the Interviewer

Rapport is essentially becoming close with a person and connecting on more than just a surface level. Find an aspect of your life that relates to theirs. Be relatable and find a common ground. This will make you more personable and memorable for sure. Some specific examples of how to create rapport are to find a sports team, a television show, or an aspect of their childhood that you relate to.

DO NOT give Cliche Answers

Interviewers are trying to find the right fit for the position. Using answers that are truthful and original allows them to see the real you. You want to stand out in their minds! When asked what your biggest weakness is, don't say "I work too hard" or "I dedicate too much to my career." This is not what they are looking for and definitely not true. Answer truthfully and professionally without using phrases that are already overused.

Be Prepared for Anything

Being prepared means doing a lot of research beforehand about the company and about yourself. You obviously do not know what questions they are going to ask so you need to be prepared to answer just about anything. Understanding yourself is a big part of being able to be confident and answer questions about yourself with no specific preparation.

ASK QUESTIONS AT THE END

Not having questions looks really bad on you as the interviewee. This shows that you didn't research the company enough or that you think you are perfect and understand everything about them completely. Neither are good situations. It could also show that you don't care about the pay, culture, etc. of the job, which means that you are not actually interested.

Be Yourself

As I mentioned before, interviewers are trying to find the best candidate for the job so if you lie your way through and get the job, you might not be able to dig yourself out of the hole of lies. Also, personality is a big indicator on whether the candidate will be happy in that particular job or not. Company culture is a big aspect of any business and if you don't fit in, you and everyone else will not enjoy or career and most likely with quit pretty fast.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
