I remember being a freshman, sophomore and junior and always saying, "I can't wait to be a senior" and then being a senior and saying, "how many more days till graduation?" As much as I hated waking up every morning to sit in those 90 degree c-wing classrooms, these are the moments that made it all worth it.
1. Football Games
The one thing I miss the most, now being at a small school like The Catholic University of America, are the football games. Yes, we have football here, but it’s not the same, because there is no student section, there is no “let’s meet at PJ’s after”, there's no hype at all. The first football game I went to here broke my heart. Where was the student section? Where was “Renny the Renegade”? Where was the new freshman surrounding the fences? My favorite thing about being a senior was the blue pride Fridays and wearing the senior jerseys that we had bought.
2. Prom/Prom House
They say prom is one of the best nights of senior year, and I couldn’t agree more. It wasn’t even because I got to dress up and carry around a 5lb bouquet of flowers, it was because it was that one last “hoorah” with all my friends. Sure, we were all together at graduation, but prom was the last night we could all be together, and just be seniors. Prom house was another story. Me and my friends Maddy and Drew drove halfway to Brooklyn, NY before we realized we weren't headed to Sea Isle (yeah I really don't know how that happened), but when we finally got there, it was definitely a weekend none of us will forget.
3. Senior Trip
Even though this was the most exhausting week of the year, it was the best week of senior year. From my friend Mallory’s breakdown on the first night because all of us had been up for 22+ hours to the $13 ice cream bucket we all devoured in a matter of 10 minutes at Blizzard Beach. This was the best trip of my life, what’s better than going to Disney World with your best friends for a week?
4. The Fight That Made us Closer
I don’t really know how to even explain this one. All I can say is there was a group chat, and then I left for North Carolina, then I came back and there was a war, but I wouldn’t have traded this week for the world. I can’t really tell you the whole story, because I’m not even sure if it would be accurate. But all I do know is that that “fight” made the latter part of my senior year unforgettable. There’s something about petty arguments that bring people closer, and I’ll be honest, I would have never thought that the majority of my senior year would be spent with these people. Sure they would've been a part of it, but I definitely didn't expect this. But these people are girls that I will never forget, and because of them we had one hell of a senior year and I’m forever grateful for them.
5. Graduation
Well to start off, I got kicked in the face with a beachball five minutes before accepting my diploma (thanks Sam) so I that was pretty funny. But the actual graduation ceremony was truly memorable. Whether it was sitting in that terribly hot C-Wing classroom one last time, walking around the track with my hat blowing off every two minutes and flipping my tassel from right to left indicating that I was now a Shawnee High School Graduate.
This is what these four years led up to.
