Local music is super important. It's always a good thing if you are an avid music fan to get involved and acquainted with local music. Especially if you love concerts, because odds are that your local bands will be putting on a lot of local shows either for free or very cheap prices!

It's also just important to support these artists because odds are they're smaller bands that are just trying to get exposure and appreciate all the attention they can get! In the Indianapolis area there are tons of local bands, but here are just of a few of the top bands I encourage you to listen to!

1. Margot & The Nuclear So and So's

First off how fantastic is this band name!? Margot & The Nuclear So and So's are an Indie Rock/Folk band based right here in Indianapolis, Indiana. The band has been around since 2004 and is most known for their single "Broad Ripple is burning". If you like bands like the Lumineers, Blind Pilot, or The Avett Brothers, this band is definitely for you!

2. Saint Aubin

Saint Aubin is a relatively new band based also in Indianapolis, IN. They have been described as "a soulful collision of alt-rock, and jazzy folk music" by The Anchored Soul Blog. If you enjoy bands such as Fleet Foxes, Bright eyes, or Neutral Milk Hotel, you would most likely enjoy this band as well!

3. Mike Adams at His Honest Weight

This band is actually based in Bloomington, Indiana. However, their sound and energy is still fantastic. The band was created in 2011. The lead singer of the group Mike Adams is known for his humor, especially on stage! The band is most known for there song "Be Free Live Well". I would say their music is also in the category of indie/alternative music. Check them out!

4. Landon Keller

Honestly he might be my favorite on the list. Landon Keller has a very Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson vibe to his music which is electrifying and undeniably catchy. The band has been around since 2007 yet still has little recognition which is sad to say the least. Definitely check this guy out.

5. Lily & Madeleine

Based in Indianapolis, this duo (of SISTERS how cool!?) on Spotify is described as "Specializing in ethereal, introspective indie folk in the vein artists like First Aid Kit and Fleet Foxes (with just a touch of Taylor Swift)". These girls are adorable to say the least. Their voices are also undeniably beautiful. Definitely a band to check out. They are most know for their song "Come To Me".

Hope these bands help you to begin discover some local music! Happy Listening!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
