College - a time of adjustment, of making new friends, and of unbelievable amounts of newfound stressors.

As finals week bears down on my horizon, narrowing in, I myself have faced significant barriers of stress. So, in order to combat the finals stress - or even the pre-new year stress - that I believe occurs in all of us (or at least I hope I’m not the only one), I wanted to take some time to focus on all the positive things happening in the world around us to take a break from negativity for a while.

1. Tom the Turkey

I live near an area where, I kid you not, there's a rogue turkey that has become relatively famous for disrupting traffic. Apparently cars and people don't scare him, and local to me he's actually become a sensation on the news, people in my area all know about him, and he has a Facebook page. Recently the police actually relocated him because he was causing such a hullabaloo.

This is Tom, disrupting the world and flaunting his turkiness:

This article literally refers to him as the "quirky turkey." You're welcome.

2. A 2 Year Old Girl Saved

According to an article on sciencealert.com, doctors were able to save a 2 year old little girl after she drowned and didn't have her own authentic pulse for two hours. Brain damage began to accumulate, but they were able to reverse it for the first time - YAY SCIENCE!

3. Mothers are Angels

According to this article: (worth checking out this website by the way, always makes me feel better), a mother with two military sons found out that not all the other soldiers received the support that her sons did through her. In response to this news, LeAnn started a movement, and managed to send TEN THOUSAND CARE PACKAGES overseas to soldiers. TEN THOUSAND!!! She plans to continue to accept donations online, and maintain this as a regular practice so that the men and women fighting for our country receive some appreciation. WHAT A SAINT!

4. From Homeless to... Carnegie?

According to an article on msn.com the Dallas Street Choir made history by going and performing at Carnegie Hall. The video is also linked in that article, where they go in depth about the story of this choir making their way to Carnegie Hall!

This beautiful place is Carnegie Hall

5. The Holidays are Coming!

Even though December means finals, it also means holidays, snow (for me at least), hot cocoa, and family cheer. So, happy holidays fellow students, and feel free to share this article with anyone else who needs a pick-me up, or share with me in the comments any good news coming your way lately!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
