5 Life Lessons We Can All Learn From Robin Williams

I grew up watching movies on my family's VHS player, movies like Flubber, Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams, Jumanji, and Aladdin.

When I was older I watched Good Will Hunting and Dead Poets Society (one of my favorites).

But what do all these films have in common?

Robin Williams.

Whether it was tears rolling down my cheek from the heartfelt scenes he would premiere in or laughing so hard my abs hurt, Robin Williams always made an impression on me.

What I love most about the majority of his movies is that he always throws in a memorable quote that leaves you thinking.

Enjoy this condensed list of some of my all time favorite Robin William quotes. I hope they will reverberate in your mind and enlighten your soul like they have done so for me.

1. "I used to think that the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel all alone".

While this quote is rather dreary, it rings true in so many ways. We as humans have the ability to choose who we want and don't want in our lives. Choose wisely. Someone may temporarily fill a void in your life, or make you feel comforted for the time being, but you can do better than that. Choose people that aren't as fleeting as time itself. Choose people who make you feel alive, not alone.

2. "You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the things you weren't paying attention to".

I've experienced the truth in this countless times. Just when you think you have your life figured out, something comes along and seems to mess it all up. But it's in those times when you realize there truly is a lesson that can be learned in any trial we go through. We simply have to be willing to recognize it.

3. "You are only given a little spark of madness. You musn't lose it".

Have the courage to go after what you want. Whatever that may be. Chase after it wholeheartedly until its yours. Keep alive the things that make you feel alive. Whether that's a passion, a dream, or a person. Put your time and energy into it and what you receive back will be nothing short of remarkable!

4. "Real loss is only possible when you love something more than yourself".

This one doesn't need an explanation, the quote says it all!

5. "Make your life spectacular".

You have control over your actions, and ultimately how you will live your life. You can settle for mediocre, or strive for greatness. In order to be truly content in life I believe we need to live a life that we are proud of. And in doing so we will truly live a spectacularly beautiful life.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
