Every year you make those New Years resolutions you never really continue with after about a week. Some really far-fetched and others simple. Since I'm personally restarting my health journey, I thought I would share the 10 things I'm planning to implement in my life with you all.

1. Hydrate or DIEdryate

Water is the most essential thing to life, yet I still don't drink enough of it. That's why I plan to start every morning off with a tall glass of water. This gets your metabolism going bright and early and also hydrates you from sleep. Making sure you are drinking enough water helps with digestion and with your skin as well, so if you get a lot of acne, adding more water to your diet may help.

2. Getting enough sleep

As college students, sleep is a sacred act. Getting enough sleep is even more hard to come by. Getting a sufficiant amount of sleep will not only make your body feel better, but it will make your brain function better too because even your brain needs sleep. I personally like to get eight hours of sleep and because of morning classes, I go to bed around 10 p.m.–which may seem lame–but I like my sleep, so it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

3. Walk everywhere

Exercise is also pretty important to make a well-rounded lifestyle. One easy way to make sure you're getting some without having to make it to the gym is by walking. If you can walk to class, personally my walk to class is about 20 minutes, so if I walk to class and back from it that's 40 minutes of exercise. If it's cold it actually makes walking easier because it's harder to break a sweat!

4. Stay organized

Whenever I write something down, it's more likely that I'll actually get it done. This is where multiple types of planners come in handy. If you're working on weight loss, get a fitness planner that has places for you to track what you're eating and how you're exercising. If time management is your thing, get a planner with hourly slots–not just daily. This will allow you to plan out your days by the hour. There many types of planners that can help you reach your organizational goals.

5. Do what makes you happy

One thing that will make your life that much better is doing what makes you happy. If you're working on fitness but you hate going to the gym, find an alternative workout like pilates or rock climbing. Don't do things that don't make you happy because there will be a greater chance you won't stick with them. If you hate running as much as I do, avoid it. Go to barre classes or get on the elliptical instead so you enjoy your time at the gym!

These life hacks are just a few of dozens that you can start applying to your life right now! Start off the new year right by challenging yourself to commit to bettering your health and your lifestyle. One new healthy habit can change your life drastically!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
