5 Lessons From 'Friends' That Every College Girl Needs To Learn

Sometimes Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey know best.

If you say you haven't binge watched 25 episodes of "Friends" a day for a week, then you're lying. "Friends" is easily everyone's favorite show, even over 10 years after the series finale. What makes "Friends" so great is that it is timeless and applies to everyone. The show is about real-life things, and features real issues and altercations that we come across almost every single day. Since the crew of "Friends" is just like us, we have some things to learn from them.

1. Stop talking bad about other girls behind their backs.

We girls have it tough out there, and the only ones that understand the struggle are other girls. Don't hate on the girl whose Snapchat story is 75 seconds of drunken bar moments because you've been there, too. We need to build each other up because if we don't, who will?

2. It's OK to eat that slice of pizza.

Seriously, you will not die. You will still be killin' it on the beach on spring break, and you will still fit into your formal dress. Eat the piece of pizza unapologetically and enjoy every delicious, savory bite of it. Eat that piece of pizza because you know you want to, you work hard and you're a strong woman that deserves it. Treat yo'self.

3. Don't let any guy steal your wind.

If you haven't seen this episode (but let's be real, we all know you have), Rachel, Phoebe and Monica read a book in which women are goddesses, men are lightning bearers and there is something with a pool of inner power, and wind. I'm a little bit unclear about the whole thing, but the main point of what they are trying to say is that women can't let men take anything away from them in a relationship, and women must remember that men do not have any power over them. Don't change who you are for a boy, keep your independence in a relationship and stop saying you came to college for an "MRS degree." You're better than that. Remember that you are worth so much, and no boy can take that away from you.

4. Try new things.

Whether you try unagi for the first time or take a new route to class, it's important to push your boundaries and expand your limits with new things. It is so easy to get into a monotonous, repetitive routine every day, but there is so much to do and see in the world that we are cheating ourselves by staying in our comfort zone.

5. Show unconditional love to your friends.

When you're away from home at college, your friends are your family. Sunday night home-cooked dinners with your parents are replaced by microwavable macaroni with seven girls packed inside of a dorm room, and you wouldn't have it any other way. They are the people you go to when you're sick and your mom isn't there, and for just about everything else. College can be the best years of your life, and your friends are the reason for that. We would be lost without our friends, so we should show them just how much they're appreciated. Give them a hug, take pictures with them and ask about their day. They are the most important people in your life, so they should be treated as such.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
