My first semester as a college student has finally come to an end! So far, It’s been such a good experience from the moment I moved into my dorm on campus all the way to the end of the semester. It seems like time flew by fast. It’s nice just to be able to stop for a moment and reflect on everything that has happened this semester. There were good times and maybe a few times that were not so good. However, I'm taking what my first semester has taught me and running with it.
Here are 5 lessons my first semester of college has taught me:
1. It's good to be open to many possibilities.
Not everyone will have a concrete plan going into college, but that is ok. Some may not even prefer to have a concrete plan. It leaves room for many more possibilities.
2. There's nothing wrong with missing home.
It's ok to miss your family. It's ok if you prefer to go home every weekend. It won't hinder your college experience, or make it any less exciting.
3. Alone time is important.
During my first semester, one thing I learned about myself is that I need my alone time. Everyone may not have this experience, but for some, alone time provides time to relax, to temporally get away from all of the stress, and to recharge.
4. Hard work pays off.
My goal for the first semester was to maintain all A's in my classes. At first I wasn't for certain that I would be able to reach that goal, but I did it through hard work. Hard work really does pay off.
5. It's ok to not be ok.
College can be hard. Its ok to not be ok sometimes. It's understandable. Everyone goes through periods of stress or loneliness while in college. You're not alone.
With nervousness, but also excitement, I'm looking forward to the lessons I will be taught while continuing my college experience.
