If you've seen Queer Eye, the latest reality TV Netflix hit, then you're already in love with Jonathan Van Ness. If not, the main premise is this: five gay man give one straight man a life makeover, helping them to become the best versions of themselves. On the show, Jonathan works with the men on their grooming habits and helps them learn the importance of self-care, all while being his gorgeous self.
1. "Just laughing at all my gorgeous personality."
In this Instagram post, JVN reminds us of the importance showing yourself compassion and patience. He's talking about himself, but isn't this a lesson we all should learn?
He writes, "You're busier than ever, dealing with more pressure than ever, and it's okay if you're feeling brand new at life, it's okay if you're a bit reactive. Just noticing the part of myself that's crying out for my own attention. So I'm just laughing at all my gorgeous personality and showing myself some kindness and compassion."
2. "Work on completing you and falling in love with you."
"And also may I just say, if I weren't me and saw this 3 years ago it would make me feel lonely and to that person I say this, work on completing you and falling in love with you, everything else is icing on top."
Most people post a picture with their significant other just to share their love and happiness with the world (nothing wrong with this of course), but Jonathan takes the extra step to make sure his happy relationship doesn't make any singles out there get down on themselves. He's so precious.
3. Teaching an old dog new tricks.
"When people say, 'You can't teach an old dog new tricks,' it's not true, because you can reinvent yourself and learn new things whenever you want." Which is exactly what Queer Eye teaches us all we can do.
4. "You're strong, you're a Kelly Clarkson song, you got this"
Once again, JVN reminding us all that what doesn't kill you what you stronger.
5. "How you take care of yourself is how the world sees you. It's okay to have a relationship with yourself."
The message of self-love cannot be repeated enough. It's so important and special that Jonathan can use his platform to spread that message. And him always being his beautiful and goofy self helps us to see the happiness and joy that comes from self acceptance and self love!
