5 Items You Definitely Need For College Theme Parties

School is back in session and that means a whole new season of themed parties has begun. I think almost every fraternity party ends up having some kind of theme and I’m definitely not complaining. The key is being well prepared for whatever theme comes your way. Luckily, things are starting to get pretty predictable. So when picking out you back to school wardrobe, go ahead a replace a few dresses and rompers with these theme party essentials.

1. A jersey

This might be the most basic of all the themes but I guarantee you will attend at least a few jersey parties during any given semester of college. You might be sporty and already have a jersey (or five) on hand, but if you’re like me, this is something you will need to go out of your comfort zone to purchase. This is something you should be able to find at a thrift shop, or if you’re looking to show your school spirit, pick one up at your campus bookstore! A jersey is definitely a college wardrobe essential, oh and you’ll need white converse to go with it, obviously.

2. Americana

USA is another very popular party theme. Sure, it’s cliché, but frat boys just really love America. Stock up on all things red, white and blue; you will be dressing up like it’s the Fourth of July more often than you think.

3. A Hawaiian shirt

“Luaus” are almost as lazy as jersey parties in my opinion, but regardless, they are another tried and true favorite. This certainly won’t be the most flattering top you ever wear, but they sure are comfy!Head to your local thrift store, I promise you will be met with a surprisingly large selection of Hawaiian shirts of all sizes, colors, and patterns. You’ll wear it at least once a semester all throughout your college career, and it will probably only cost you about 99 cents!

4. A plain white t-shirt

I know this is boring, but trust me, at some point during your college career someone will get the bright idea to throw up some black lights and toss neon paint and/or highlighter all over their party guests. Go to Walmart, buy a pack of plain white undershirts, and you’ll have one for every year of college!

5. An ugly Christmas sweater

Things I would be willing to bet my life on: multiple Christmas sweater parties the weekends before Thanksgiving and Winter break. You’ll only wear this once or twice a year but you will never be so happy to be wearing something so ugly. Every party during these weekends will have the same theme, so you can basically just roam around campus spreading holiday cheer without having to worry about looking out of place. Bonus points if you add a Santa hat, reindeer antlers, or my favorite, a huge red hair bow.

I know these might seem impractical, and your parents will definitely wonder why it looks like you are packing you suitcase full of the Goodwill donations before heading to college, but you will definitely be happy that you came to campus prepared!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
