If you were stranded on a deserted island what would be the one object you would bring?

I am sure everyone has been asked this question in some form or another in their lifetime. I believe that it is one of the hardest questions people struggle to answer. The incredible thing about the question is that in the event that any person was stranded on an island they would realistically have no time to choose an item to bring with them, so the entirety of the question would have no relevance in the chance the event of being stranded on an island occurred. Therefore, I will be providing you with a list of realistic items you might have with you if you were to be stranded on a deserted island and how these items could save your life.

1. Your cell phone

Nowadays almost everyone carries with them a portable cell phone. While on a deserted island this item is rendered useless. There will most likely be no cell service on your island and the battery will only last you a few hours. While on this island you will need warmth. Break open your phone and dip it in water. This should hopefully generate some sparks and help you get a fire started.

2. Your clothes

You can rip pieces of fabric to use as kindling in a fire. You can use your clothes to filter water and you can use your clothes to create shelter.

3. A pocket knife

Not every person carries this with them, but if you have a pocket knife it could potentially one day save your life. You can use the pocket knife to cut fruit or kill prey. You will need food to survive; a human can only live 3 weeks without food. Also, most pocket knives are made with a reflective metal which can be used to signal boats and planes.

4. Your wallet

While the value of the money inside won’t do you much good, worse comes to worse you can burn the contents to provide yourself some warmth. Also, the spare change could be used to write out the word HELP in a reflective way on the island shore.

5. A purse

A purse is a woman's swiss army knife. The contents of a woman’s purse include an assortment of money, mints, makeup, reading glasses, some light reading materials, pens, and snacks. Luckily, if you end up on a deserted island, you'd have all these items. It will be the key to your survival. With snacks to provide you food, glasses to help light the fire, makeup and reading material to keep you busy. You will enjoy a nice relaxing vacation with this in your repertoire.

I can almost guarantee that if you ever find yourself stranded on a deserted island, you will not have a compass or a box of matches. Now you have learned how some everyday objects could potentially aid in your survival.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
