My favorite genre, by far, of movies, stories, podcasts, etc. is horror. Horror fans enjoy the macabre, the things that send a shiver up your spine. I love reading horror stories, mainly those posted on r/nosleep or Creepypastas. Over the years I've read many horror short stories, some only a couple paragraphs long, others being 5000+ words and have 8 parts. I love reading a good r/nosleep post right before bed. Reading lulls me to sleep, and I get spooked. That being said, here are, in no particular order, my favorite horror short stories. Hope you can't sleep tonight!
*Triggers are tagged on each story
1. Penpal
This creepypasta is a classic. Although it's rather long, it's a good read from start to finish. I read this aloud to my friends in 2 separate 3 hour long sessions. Yes, that was pathetic, and yes, I'm an English major.
2. Autopilot
I've mentioned this story in past articles, so it's obvious that it's one of my favorites. Autopilot often gets the best of us in our daily lives, so this one is eerie in the most real sense. For me, the most horrific stories are always the ones that could actually happen in real life.
3. Assisted Suicide
This one is very disturbing, so I warn you. Pay attention to details while reading, twist endings are always appreciated.
4. Psychosis
"Psychosis" is one of the classics. If you've never read it, buckle in and get ready to think. In the theme of technology and isolation, this creepypasta will chill you to the core.
5. Feed the pig
I've only recently read this r/nosleep post, but it definitely is now one of my favorites. It has all the best horror elements: fear of the unknown, gore, and sheer terror. Enjoy!
