Kids these days, right?

1. They believe in Santa.

We all can remember the age where we still thought Santa Claus was real. It is part of everyone's childhood that is a special memory to them. The idea that children think that a man flies around the world and delivers presents to children, free of cost, every December 24 shows just how innocent children really are. If only the real world could be what they dreamed of. Let's also not forget that children think that a fairy will give them money just for losing a tooth, or that a rabbit will hide Easter eggs around their house. It seems insane to us, but to little kids, it is a part of their world.

2. They are freaked out by children of the opposite sex.

This still exists to some extent, but it is amazing to think that little kids genuinely have negative associations with the opposite sex, up until a certain age. It is crazy how girls in elementary school refuse to be partners with a boy, or think they have some type of germs. It is remarkable how the human brain can evolve as one gets older, so much that you can think of another person in a completely different way than before. As adults, most people do not genuinely fear the opposite sex, and definitely don't think they have cooties.

3. They can be entertained by the simplest of things.

Babysitting can be one of the easiest and hardest of jobs, because while young kids get bored very easily, they also can be entertained very easily. You can give basically anything that you have in your possession to a little kid and there is a good chance they will be fascinated by it, if you give them a reason to be. The best thing about little kids is they love the simple things in life.

4. They are the world's easiest television critics.

I've noticed through the years that some child television shows sometimes have characters that can even look a little creepy. However, little kids don't really see that. Take Sesame Street, for example. If the average adult were to see a show featuring a monster who lives in a trash can, they might question it and think it was a little strange. However, to little kids, a monster in a trash can is something new and fun that they can see and learn from. They really are just curious about the world around them.

5. The thing they look forward to most is coming home to their parents.

Every adult remembers how awful it would be when they had to say goodbye to their parents before they went to school in the morning, especially at the kindergarten and elementary school age. It was always traumatizing leaving your mom and knowing you wouldn't be able to see her until the end of the day. Everyone can also remember how upset they would be if their parents didn't tuck them in goodnight. Some of the worst night's sleep people got as children were the nights when they had to be put to bed by their babysitters, or had to spend a weekend at their cousin's house. As adults, most of us forget just how special our parents are to us. Little kids think of their parents as their world, which is how all of us should be, even when we are older.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
