We live in truly amazing times. Our world is changing every day. There is a generation of thriving adults who have watched every phase of this transformation in amazement. They have gone from wall-mounted phones and manually recording their favorite songs on cassettes, to phones that have become vital to their lives and playlists available on every device.

This is the generation that can tell you that the standard 3R’s in traditional education is slipping. Once agonizing over their cursive, these people are now re-educating themselves in computers and technology. We have reached a place where many career options available then are now obsolete. With this knowledge in hand, schools should be offering courses in these industries that have real staying power for the future.

Health Care

There will always be a need for health care workers in every area of the field. From physical therapists to surgeons, you cannot replace the human factor with any technology. Anyone who has ever been through a battery of hospital tests can tell you that facing all the machines is easier with a person right there, putting you at ease.

Sustainable Living

With exploding populations comes the demand for more accommodations. In turn, the environment is suffering from growing pains. Our natural resources are being depleted every day, and if we do not find a way to rethink the way we have traditionally done things, we risk destroying everything we have come to depend on. Educating our children on alternative energy sources or how to reinvent plastics will protect the environment for future generations.

Real Estate

Growing populations also require places to grow. This translates into a thriving career for anyone in the real estate field. The housing markets are booming and people need assistance finding the right place for them. A professional real estate agent will always be viewed as a trusted friend, with the knowledge of all the personal and financial stats needed to find the perfect home.

Mechanics

Seen by some as a menial career choice, there is much to be said for taking this path. As long as there is transportation, there will be a need for people to repair the inevitable issues that arise. The industry is always progressing, incorporating all the latest technology in the search to be the best. This allows a person in the field unending opportunities to learn and grow while keeping up with the latest advancements. There is also the possibility of moving into more advanced fields such as aircraft repair or whatever new transportation means the future brings us.

Technology

No industrial list is complete without mention of the technology field. It seems everything is becoming more technologically dependent from the simple TV and refrigerator to our vehicles and even education. The days of learning how to correctly form a handwritten letter are gone, replaced by social media. All of these devices require a computer chip, which in turn requires a technical brain to generate it. There are no limitations to a career in this field, and the introductory computer courses are the springboard for all of this.

The more society changes, the more the need for specialized training changes. People in the 35 to 55-year-old age group are continually educating themselves to keep up with changes in their jobs and life. They will tell you that education needs to make greater strides in keeping up with the times. It is no longer acceptable to leave what was once considered higher learning courses for students in college. All students deserve the head start that these courses will give them in an ever-changing world.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
