Land of the free, and home of the brave; we are all so very lucky to be citizens of such a great country. A country where regardless of our gender, sexuality, race, background, or beliefs we are all granted the same human rights. They say "you don't know what you have until it is gone," yet we still tend to take for granted the rights that we have.
Not every country around the world allows their citizens to have the ability to become whoever they chose. That is one of the great things about being an American. We have the right to become anyone we want to be and drive our life into any direction we chose. We are not forced to practice a certain religion or to work in a certain field. We are all seen as equal human beings. We have been granted rights that no one is able to take away from us, but unfortunately this is not the case for everyone around the world.
We laugh, joke and make fun of the idea of "First World Problems." God forbid I go to Starbucks and they are all out of Peppermint Mocha, #FirstWorldPains. We make jokes but forget the fact that there are people in this world that cannot even obtain clean water to drink. Next time a typical "First World Problem" occurs, think about the rights that you do have access to instead of that overpriced coffee that is unavailable at this time.
Aside from running water, we tend to take for granted a lot of other human rights.
1. The Right To Own Property
Property not only can provide a space to develop a home, but it can be used as an investment and a way to make money for yourself. The right to own property and provide ourselves with a home or a financial boost is something that we should appreciate more.
2. The Right Of Being Equal Before The Law And Entitled To Equal Protection Of The Law
We don't seem to appreciate the laws that are put into place to protect us and the fact that we are all seen as equal to follow the laws. Although we all have different viewpoints on laws and what should and should not be, we should be more grateful that these laws are put into effect for our well-being and safety.
3. The Right To Education
As Americans, we know how important an education is to succeed in the world. College degrees are everything and it is so important to educate yourself with as much knowledge as possible, in and out of a classroom setting. Our country encourages education for everyone regardless of your gender or race. The importance of education cannot be stressed enough and it is a right that should be appreciated so much more.
4. The Right To Travel Anywhere That We Chose
We are free to leave this country whenever we chose and to travel wherever it is that we want. Whether that be traveling to a tropical island for a vacation or traveling to the Amazon to study wildlife in the rainforest, we have the right to come and go as we please. The freedom to go anywhere we chose and never feel like we are trapped in one setting is one that should be cherished.
5. The Right To Marriage And To Raise A Family
We have the right to marry someone we love and to raise a family. This right is truly one that is taken for granted way too often because not everywhere in the world can you marry anyone you love freely and be able to start a family. Regardless of your sexuality, nationality, or race you are free to fall in love with anyone and that is the greatest right that we are given. Americans take for granted the right to love and be loved.
Appreciate the little human rights in life because if they were ever taken away your life would not be the same.
