Seriously, I don’t know what I would do without music. I put my headphones on as soon as I wake up and the last thing I do is take them off before going to sleep. For the last few months, I have been into reggaeton. And let me just say, the reggeaton songs that have been coming out are hot! We’ve all heard of “Despacito,” by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee, and although many don’t know what in the world the song is about, they still jam out. It is overplayed, but here are some new Latin songs you can enjoy this summer!
1. "Vivo Pensando En Ti" by Felipe Pelaez Ft. Maluma
First off, Maluma is one of the most prominent Latin artists, and anything this man touches becomes a hit. It’s not surprising to see him featured in tracks. The song is rather new, and I’m sure within the next few weeks it will blow up. The song talks about a man falling in love with his friend, and although it was not planned, he cannot help his feelings. It is fair to say it’s more on the sweet side.
2. "Una Lady Como Tu" by MTZ Manuel Turizo
I came across this song when I was checking out the Instagram story of Mexican soccer player, Raul Jimenez. In the video, Jimenez was singing along and the song instantly caught my attention. As most of us would have done, I googled the lyrics and have not stopped singing this song. Reggaeton usually does not have the most romantic lines, but this song shows otherwise. The song talks about how he is going to make a girl fall in love with him. He is even going to send her flowers to her house. Cheesy, I know, but in Spanish it sounds better.
3. "Mayores" by Becky G Ft. Bad Bunny
Let’s make room for the ladies! In less than a week this video has gained 12 million views, and I understand why. Becky G has done a phenomenal job transitioning to the Spanish market. There’s no comparison, but I can’t go without mentioning that the rhythm reminded me of the rhythm legend Selena Quintanilla would sing to. It’s fresh, hip and easy to dance to. Becky G is singing about how she likes men who treat her like the old fashioned days, even if those men are a little older than her.
4. "Hula Hoop" by Daddy Yankee
You know Daddy Yankee for the song that put reggaeton on the map, “Gasolina,” in your middle school days. Well just like that song, this song doesn’t really have a meaning. I can’t help but move when I hear this song, even when I’m driving. Also, this song pumps me up when I’m working out. Just pretend you have a hula hoop around your hips and dance those four minutes away.
5. "Mi Gente" by J. Balvin and Willy William
Thank you Colombia for giving us yet another hot artist: J. Balvin! This rising artist has had hit after hit played on the radio. Honestly, I think this song might just be my summer anthem. Tell me you’re not moving your head along with the song! I most definitely am!
