Eggnog is a common holiday delicacy, except so many people actually hate the unpalatable concoction with a passion, me being one of them. To me, nothing about eggnog says anything even close to the holiday season (except maybe the alcohol). There are so many other drinks that remind me of this festive time of year, and plenty of drinks that also make the dreaded cold more bearable. Why not talk about the drinks that deserve our holiday cheer? Here is a list of some wintery drinks that might actually help you get through this painful season, tasting a thousand times better than eggnog while they're at it.

First, we can start with the classics.

1. Peppermint Hot Chocolate

This can be something as intricate as tiny little specks of peppermint evenly disbursed throughout your hot cocoa, or something as simple as a regular mug with a candy cane dangling off the side.

2. Caramel Hazelnut Macchiato

For those days where you need a little extra pep in your step (pretty much every day), this is the perfect coffee to get you in the holiday spirit. Add a little nutmeg, get creative, see where it takes you. Maybe a dash of maple syrup? It works for Buddy.

But to fully outweigh the benefits of eggnog this holiday season, you might need something with a little more kick to it.

3. Mulled Wine

For just a mellow buzz this winter, mulled wine is the perfect fit. Filled with spices, and I don't know... Wine! That should be enough to convince you.

4. Hot Buttered Rum

As another writer put it, this drink is everything you would imagine Harry Potter's butterbeer to taste like, but with that pinch of alcohol. Drink more if you actually need to escape to Hogwarts. Results may vary depending on the level of family drama.

5. Ginger Snap Cocktail

For those of you who get five minutes in to making a gingerbread house and then ruin the entire thing. A perfect way to drink away the pain, and get your season's worth of ginger all in one sitting.

Happy holidays!

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general.
