Yeah it may have been a horrible year, but these five highlights need to stand out.

5 Highlights of 2016

2016 has been a weird year. Between the election, a Gilmore Girls and Full House revamp, and the Olympics, we've been through a lot. 2016 gave us Harriet Tubman on the 20 dollar bill, Beyoncé's "Lemonade", Stranger Things, and at last the Cubs winning the World Series. I know that to most people believe 2016 has been horrible, but here's a few things that should give us all hope. These are just five things that will I will forever remember about 2016.

1. Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar.

LIKE REALLY?? Leo has been blessing our lives for as long as I can remember and 2016 was finally the year he won an Oscar. There have been many roles and movies in which Leo deserved an Oscar: Romeo and Juliet, The Great Gatsby, Wolf of Wall Street...the list can go on. 2016 thank you for giving Leonardo an Oscar.

2. The Tennessee Volunteers beat The Florida Gators.

The Vols beat the Gators 38-28 after eleven long years of a losing streak. The rivalry between the two is uncanny. As a Volunteer For Life, it rates in the top 10 best things to happen in 2016.

3. Moana

Yeah, I know what you're thinking... isn't this a Disney movie? It may be but, the story behind it is absolutely magnificent. She is the first Disney princess to rule. She doesn't need a king to do that, and showing young girls that Moana is a girl and she is ruling a country all alone is certainly something to be proud about. Not only did they try and shatter the glass ceiling, but Lin Manuel-Miranda wrote the soundtrack.

4. Drake's album "Views"

"Views" dropped on April 29 and gave us the catchy "Hotline Bling." Drake's album was the first to reach one billion streams on Apple Music. It has stayed in the top five of Billboard 200 chart in the first six months. What would 2016 have been without Drake?

5. Hamilton Mixtape

So SIA, Chance The Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, Usher, Miguel, and Wiz Khalifa come together to cover the ever so famous Broadway Musical Hamilton. It was so good and heartfelt that you don't even have to like Broadway or know Hamilton to listen.

Alll in all, I'm super happy 2016 is behind me. 2017 better rock my socks off.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
